Solving the Human Risk Puzzle: TX Group's Journey with OutThink

TX Group, Switzerland’s largest private media company, transformed its traditional security awareness approach into a modern, adaptive human risk management program with OutThink. Facing challenges like a multilingual workforce and legacy solutions that lacked flexibility, TX Group needed a solution that was customizable, consistent, and role-based. OutThink delivered adaptive training tailored to each role, multilingual support, and a unified content design, helping TX Group build a positive, relevant security culture across 3,500 employees in a cloud-first environment.

About TX Group

TX Group is Switzerland’s largest private media company, with a 132-year legacy and a workforce of around 3,500 employees. Headquartered in Switzerland, TX Group operates across Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, and maintains a competence center in Serbia. As a critical infrastructure provider reaching 80% of the Swiss population, TX Group is uniquely positioned at the intersection of traditional media, digital innovation, fintech, and advertising.

Transitioning from print to digital media and managing a highly autonomous, multilingual workforce, TX Group recognized the need for a pioneering and adaptable approach to human risk management. Group CISO, Olivier, and Information Security Officer, Jelena, lead the security program with a small, agile team. Their mission is to foster a culture where security is understood, respected, positive, and relevant to every role.

Challenges Before OutThink

Prior to OutThink, TX Group’s approach to human risk management was outdated, infrequent, largely focused on generic security awareness and not suited to a modern cloud-first environment. Security Awareness Training was conducted only every 3–4 years, focused on high-impact sessions rather than regular reinforcement, and often met with resistance, particularly from journalists.

Legacy security awareness solutions were technologically obsolete, hard to integrate, and lacked flexibility for a diverse workforce. "We needed something up to the task for a modern environment… most vendors were Microsoft-centric, but we don’t use Microsoft Office anymore." They also shared that 90% of solutions in the market focus on phishing campaigns, which they did not require at TX Group as they don’t have a phishing problem.

Key requirements included easy customization, consistent training module design, and comprehensive multilingual support with accurate translations and local voice recordings relevant to a globalized workforce. "The consistency of modules was key. We didn’t want a mix of cartoonish and live-action content; it all needed the same look and feel." The team also wanted role-based training rather than generic content: "We were sold on [OutThink’s] adaptive training capabilities. The idea that with the role comes the modules was beautiful.ā€

Traditional and legacy security awareness platforms also fell short in relevance, focusing heavily only on phishing. "It was a nightmare to distribute the training and follow-up - very manual. We wanted modules on actual security topics, not just password complexity."

The OutThink Solution

Human Risk Management Tailored to a Unique Workforce

Human Risk Management Tailored to a Unique Workforce For TX Group, effective human risk management means delivering training matched to function-specific roles and Switzerland’s multilingual and diverse environment.

"It’s fundamental… Switzerland is the perfect example of multi-languages with our four official languages. For journalists, language is their weapon. It’s a means of showing respect to the culture and saying, ā€˜we’ll provide the training in your language.’ Also, if I want higher engagement with security andcompletion rates, that’s one less roadblock."

Customization was equally important for terminology and brand alignment: "We are called the TX Security Office." We don’t want something else in the documentation or training. We tweak this to our environment, so people feel it’s done on purpose." OutThink’s accessibility of tools across all global languages helped them achieve such a goal.

Driving Engagement Across a Diverse Organization

Driving Engagement Across a Diverse Organization TX Group now ensures high participation through mandatory campaigns, targeted reminders, and direct engagement with staff that have provided feedback after adopting OutThink.

User feedback is actively reviewed by TX Group’s Security team within the OutThink platform, facilitating two-way dialogue with end-users to build trust and improve understanding: "You take the time to make a comment; we ensure that we answer it." By combining leadership-driven mandates with thoughtful engagement and responsiveness, TX Group showcases how one can empower organizations to drive meaningful behavior change — not just compliance, but genuine connection and trust; core values which OutThink also advocates for.

"With OutThink, TX Group were able to push completions rates from 74% in 3 months to over 95%."

— Jelena, Information Security Officer

Implementation and Adoption

Improved Engagement and Security Culture

Since adopting OutThink, TX Group has seen tangible improvements in engagement. End users are now more likely to ask questions, report suspicious emails, and participate in security discussions.

"I see way more people reaching out to us or opening tickets and saying, 'I've done the training, so I’m more aware of the dangers.' I find this lovely because we have this idea of positive security."

Jelena added: "End users now have more awareness in looking for risk and are raising queries to the right people. Before the training, they were a little shy or confused, but afterwards we definitely saw an increase in the number of reported threats."

Key Metrics and Impact

Completion Rates: Increased from 74% after three months to 95% following targeted follow-up.

Reporting & Feedback: Volume of reported incidents and questions increased significantly post-training.

Empowering IT Skills: the available topics are useful for both professional use and the private IT life of employees.
